President
- Mike Corrigan
- Incumbent
(1-yr term)
Mike Corrigan is the current President of Reston Citizens Association
(RCA). He has been a Reston resident for 33 years and, with his wife
Mary Ann, raised two children in
Reston
. He is a former Reston Association (RA) director and vice president
where he formed and chaired the RA Transportation Advisory Committee.
With the RCA board, Corrigan developed the proposed plan for Reston to
become a town and briefed the community on it and he has initiated
coordination groups for major
Reston
issues.
At-Large
Director – Jason Hartke
- Incumbent
(2-yr term)
Jason Hartke has been a Reston resident for more than 20 years and
covered
Reston
as a local reporter making him keenly knowledgeable about local issues
and concerns. He has
experience working with state and local governments and in building
coalitions and in other advocacy activities.
Hartke would like to help Reston achieve town status and live up
to the goals articulated by
Reston
’s founder, Robert E. Simon.
At-Large
Director - Sue Merk
- Incumbent
(2-yr term)
Sue Merk is a current at-large director of RCA. She has lived in several
types of communities in various parts of the
United States
and moved to
Reston
in 2003. She is a member of the Reston-Herndon branch of the American
Association of University Women (AAUW) and United Christian Parish and
was appointed as RCA director at-large in March of 2005. Merk is a
paralegal at The Nature Conservancy, but her true passion is designing
websites, such as RCA’s. She feels Reston is a very unique and
friendly place to live and is interested in contributing to the
Reston
community to preserve its original plan and purpose developed upon its
creation by Robert Simon.
Lake
Anne
Director - John Fay
- Incumbent
(2-yr term)
John Fay is a current
Lake
Anne
director of RCA. Fay has lived in
Reston
for 29 years and basically grew up and went to school here.
Reston
is the closest thing that he has known as a hometown. He has lived in
town homes and detached homes all over
Reston
, north and south. For the last five years, he has served on the Board
of Directors of RCA and has worked on the Reston Festival, working on
the Web site for both. He considers
Reston
to be a special place because it has always been innovative. He wants to
make sure that
Reston
continues to remain a place to try out new ideas that solve
transportation problems, ensure the best educational opportunities for
children, provide a place to live and play for all members of society
and, most importantly, give its citizens a say in their own public
affairs. Fay said, "
Reston
has become what it is today because of the efforts of many Restonians. I
want to do my part and continue this effort."
Northpoint Director – Jane Wong
- New Candidate (2-yr term)
Jane Wong was a candidate last spring for the at-large seat in Reston
Association and was involved with the second effort for a town
referendum in 1989. Wong is
a current RCA Volunteer and is in favor of town status saying “
Reston
’s voice is not equally represented on major issues affecting us. This
is unfair. A premier planned community like
Reston
, with world-class recognition, deserves better.”
South
Lakes
Director - Colin Mills
- Incumbent
(2-yr term)
Colin Mills is a current
South
Lakes
director for RCA. He has lived in
Reston
for his entire life (save college). He is intimately familiar with
Reston, its strengths and potential areas for improvement, and the
aspects of
Reston
that make it so special and worth preserving. Mills is currently on the RCC Board of Governors, RCA Representative to
Reston Metrorail Access Group (RMAG) and President, Nats Fan Club.
He would like to do his part to contribute to the
community that he knows and appreciates so well.
