All are welcome to participate in RCA’s committee work. Current committees are:

 

Candidate Debate

Prior to elections in November, RCA partners with Reston Impact on Comcast, Ch. 28, to offer debates between all candidates. Local journalists pose the questions to the candidates. Depending on the year, there are several debates for each elected position. Contact John Lovaas, johnlovaas@comcast.net.

 

Citizen of the Year

At the end of the year, solicits and adjudicates nominations. After the award ceremony, the winner’s name is engraved on a plaque at Hunter Woods Community Center. Contact John Lovaas, johnlovaas@comcast.net.

 

Elections and Nominations

Mostly works prior to RCA July elections of the Board of Directors, held at the Reston Festival at RCA’s booth. Any resident of Tax District 5 can run for the RCA Board. Candidates cannot sit on this committee. Contact John Hanley, 703/391-9549. Click here for Election Process and Forms.

 

License Plate

Collecting 350 registrations so the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles will make up auto plates in Doug Fuller’s winning design. Contact Dan McGuire at 703/620-9879.  You can access the form by clicking here.

 

Operations

Meets as needed to organize internal operations, including fundraising. Contact George Kain at 703/709-8494.

 

Reston Accessibility Committee

Partnering throughout the greater Reston community to improve access for persons with mobility impairments. Membership open to anyone who is interested. Contact Ken Fredgren at fredgren.k@gmail.com or 703/391-9019 for a brochure  or other information. or see the website.

 

Reston 2020

And the associated Blog, Citizens Shaping Reston’s Future. This committee advocates for citizen collaboration in the revision and update of the Comprehensive Plan.  A watchdog on Reston land use issues, to ensure that as density increases with the arrival of Metrorail, Reston:

·           Keeps its open space, green space, common and natural areas

·           Places increased density along the Dulles Corridor, in Town Center and in the Village Centers

·           Protects stable residential neighborhoods

·           Revitalizes Lake Anne Village Center and

·           Keeps pace with infrastructure, including transportation infrastructure

RCA is proud to have been the originator of two committees which have become independent: Reston Planning and Zoning Committee and, more recently, the Sustainable Reston Committee. In addition, RCA initiated and organized the Reston Festival at Lake Anne for many years; it is now located at Reston Town Center.
