Transportation
issues
With
the coming of Metro’s Silver Line to Reston in the next few
years (possibly as early as 2011),
Reston
can expect to see major changes in our traffic patterns.
1. Fairfax County’s Reston
Metro Access Group (RMAG) has recently concluded a series of
public meeting to solicit public views about access to proposed
metro stations by busses, vehicle, bicycles and pedestrians.
RMAG also recommended a series of roadway projects to improve
traffic at the most congested intersections near the metro
stops. RCA Vice President Colin Mills was a member of RMAG
and participated actively in its work. You can see an
executive summary of RMAG’s final report dated April 15, 2008 at
this link: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/fcdot/pdf/wr_sam/sam_report_ex_sum.pdf
The full report (a very long pdf file) is available at: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/fcdot/pdf/wr_sam/sam_report.pdf
2.
There is also considerable public discussion of Bus Rapid Transit
(BRT), an innovative bus system that could supplement the
east-west Metro Silver Line with an integrated network of bus
services throughout
Fairfax
County
. For information
about BRT, you can go to the following website:
